2021 - 2022
Legatum Fellow
From:
Brazil
Sector:
Financial Services
Location:
Brazil
Degree:
MBA, Sloan School of Management

Eric has witnessed firsthand the impacts of financial exclusion in Brazil. Growing up his family did not have access to credit to buy essential home products. Moved by this, Eric is driven to impact the wellbeing of low-income populations in Latin America by leveraging innovative technologies and business models. Capim is the first impact-oriented point-of-sale lender in Brazil, focusing on solving the problem of over 160 million Brazilians who have limited access to essential health and home products.

Eric studied international relations and was inspired by the potential of disruptive technologies in frontier markets. This led him to create his first award-winning startup focused on the sharing economy in Brazil in 2015. He later built and grew the Startup Club at McKinsey Brazil, helping several startups with mentoring and connections. Prior to MIT, Eric acted as interim CEO of Kria, a prominent equity crowdfunding platform in Brazil, aiming to democratize access to venture capital in the country. Throughout his career, Eric has leveraged the potential of collaborative and community-based initiatives to generate impact. He now aims to use this same approach to bring credit, income, and opportunities to other Brazilians. He is currently and MBA Candidate at the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
