Khadija Ba
Mastercard Foundation 2022 - 2023- From:
- Senegal
- Sector:
- Financial Services
- Location:
- Senegal
- Degree:
- MBA, Sloan School of Management
Khadija was born and raised in Senegal and has had the opportunity to witness the evolution of financial services in her country throughout the years – evolving from a complete cash economy, to the expansion of banks and ATMs, to the introduction of mobile money services. Motivated by a deep interest in the entrepreneurship ecosystem on the continent, she moved back home after earning her Bachelor’s degree in the US with a goal of understanding business practices and taking part in the new ecosystem being created.
Following her involvement with a startup incubator and her experiences in data analytics and consulting, she saw an opportunity to improve two industries that she was closely engaged with: the entrepreneurship ecosystem, by tackling the issue of financing, one of the key barriers for entrepreneurs on the continent, and the financial services industry, by playing a role in rendering it more inclusive and more apt to serve the population in a bigger, better and more representative manner.
Her venture, AMAL, has been created with a goal of democratizing access to capital for small and medium-sized enterprises by providing loans and establishing an alternative credit scoring model that utilizes data in innovative ways to assess a borrower’s credit worthiness.
