Brukty is a social entrepreneur, producer, film director, author, animator, and school teacher. She began her professional career as a primary school teacher in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Determined to improve the conditions of children across the country, she looked for ways to educate children on a mass scale. In 2005, she co-founded the educational multimedia enterprise Whiz Kids Workshop. Working from her living room, Brukty used sock puppets, computer graphics, and her own voice, to produce the first educational preschool television program in the country. Today, the award-winning children’s TV and radio program, Tsehai Loves Learning, is produced in seven languages and broadcast across five regions of Ethiopia, reaching more than 7 million viewers and listeners.
Brukty plans to continue scaling her initiatives across the continent to positively impact the lives of children and youth through educational media products and other innovations. Brukty is using her experience and voice to become a trusted thought leader in the education sector, advocating for better learning outcomes. She has bold scale ambitions with a goal to grow Tsehai Loves Learning to reach 15 million children across ten African countries by 2023.
