"When I began my undergraduate dissertation my thesis partner and I met with a community of wood carvers who produced beautiful art pieces but paradoxically were living in poverty. After sixteen months of research, hard work and mutual collaboration we proposed the strategy and actions that we considered essential in order to transform this community into a cluster that exports its production to high-end European markets."

Jonathan will continue work on his start-up company, QUIBOR, which produces wood handicrafts for export from a community in Northwestern Venezuela. QUIBORassists the community in guarding against deforestation by negotiating donations of secondary wood products from licensed forest concessionaries and helps the community receive a higher price for its crafts by promoting their export to Europe.
