“I learned that success requires challenging assumptions, taking risks and treating no idea as sacrosanct. And that ultimately, it’s not a technological problem, it is a human one.”
After working in the high-tech industry and starting two technology-based companies, the best entrepreneurial lesson I have learned is that the greatest asset that a company has is not the idea but the people.
Currently, I am the Senior Program Manager in Microsoft’s Enterprise Security Group, focusing on analyzing emerging technologies, evaluating new ventures and incubating them. I also led several engineering teams and product launches at EMC where I was the product manager in the Indian Operations for my department. My work allowed me to travel to India, China and the US.
I started two companies, Lorven Inc., a software testing service, and Rumble Jumble, a start-up that provided internet classifieds to college students. I am on the board of Vanavasi Education through Empowerment, an organization creating single-teacher schools in India and am deeply passionate about social entrepreneurship.
Over the course of my work in India, I have had the opportunity to observe the Indian microenterprise segment and have noticed the effects of the digital divide. This disparity presents a very unique opportunity. As a Legatum Fellow, I plan to use mobile technologies to facilitate the growth of small businesses in India. I envision building an enterprise that hosts SMS servers and services and also builds solutions for various vertical segments over time.
My hobbies include traveling, photography and options trading.
