PhD Sloan, Technology Innovation Entrepreneurship Program

“I am interested in developing and setting up remote technologies that help city hospitals to communicate back and forth from village clinics. Currently, villages in many developing nations do not have the resources to provide good quality health care. However, technology has reached the point where it can help mitigate long distance communications and save lives.”

I am Nada Hashmi, currently in the Systems Design and Management Program at MIT. With a diverse background, I enjoy taking on challenges and new ventures. My latest venture just recently started- I am on a PhD track at the Sloan School of Management focusing on Biotech Cluster studies.

I consider myself a social entrepreneur - society can only progress if change occurs from within by the common folks. I successfully started technology training programs for women in Saudi Arabia, have set up networks to help inspire students from developing countries, such as Pakistan and India, to pursue higher education and used technology to better the quality of emergency response units in the Boston region.  In addition, I love to share all that I have learned and hence, to date, have over 13 publications, book chapters, journal articles and a patent.

My background is in Computer Science and I am passionate about using education to empower the individual to help themselves and the society around them. Upon completion of my education, I am interested in developing and setting up remote technologies that help city hospitals to communicate back and forth from village clinics in developing countries.  Telemedicine and remote diagnosis have thus far not reached their mark. Having studied the system, this is what I intend to do - start an IT Medical Venture aimed at providing effective remote diagnosis.  I have experiences in setting up training programs as well as the use of online communities.

In my spare time, I enjoy horse-riding, photography and learning about different cultures and traditions.
