The Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is founded upon the idea that bottom-up entrepreneurship is the central driver of both economic development and the emergence of good governance. For-profit enterprises in a competitive environment- fueled by innovations- create a path toward poverty alleviation, elimination of corruption, and improvements in health and education. The Legatum Center promotes bottom-up entrepreneurship by supporting select MIT students who demonstrate the potential to create for-profit enterprises in low-income countries.
