Zyad’s venture offers a distribution channel from Moroccan artisans to consumer markets in the United States and establishes a quality brand for authentic handcrafts. The venture’s platform is a website that displays crafts and allows consumers and wholesalers to place orders directly with artisans. Zyad’s long-term goal is to scale the platform and offer the wares of artisans in other African countries, connecting rural artisans and international markets, and bringing technology to rural communities.

While climbing the Atlas Mountains and exploring the desert, Zyad met Moroccan craftsmen creating beautiful caftans, silver jewellery, and ceramics. Despite their talent, Moroccan craftsmen have limited access to markets. Zyad believes that a web-based distribution channel helps artisans access markets and receive recognition for their work, as well as command higher prices for their crafts.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Zyad discovered his passion for entrepreneurship and created an ecommerce start-up called Mycoupons.ma. Previously, he worked as a financial engineer in the London-based investment bank Société Générale CIB, and served as an advisor to the Moroccan Ministry of Handicraft and Social Solidarity Economy.

Zyad holds a Master’s in Science and Executive Engineering from MINES ParisTech. He is currently pursuing a SDM at the School of Engineering and Sloan School of Management.
