Steph Speirs
2016 - 2017- From:
- United States of America
- Sector:
- Energy/Utilities
- Location:
- Mexico
- Degree:
- MBA Sloan School of Management
Steph’s company, Solstice, provides community-shared solar power to households that cannot install a system on their own rooftop and is seeking to expand its services to Mexico. Solstice aims to put affordable solar within reach of every person, regardless of their income and the type of roof they possess. They do so by deploying community solar, which allows households to enjoy a portion of a neighborhood shared solar farm at no cost. After co-founding Solstice in the US, Steph appreciates that extending solar access to low-income people in other regions could play a crucial role in mitigating climate change.
Steph previously launched sales and marketing innovation initiatives at d.light India, a solar products company powering areas without reliable electricity; spearheaded Acumen’s renewable energy sector investment strategy in Pakistan; developed Middle East policy as the youngest Director at the White House National Security Council; and managed field operations in seven states for the first Obama presidential campaign. She was selected as an Echoing Green Climate Fellow, a Global Good Fund Fellow, a Kia Revisionary, a Cordes Fellow, an Aspen Ideas Scholar, and an Acumen Global Fellow, all of which recognize emerging leaders in social enterprise.
She holds a B.A. from Yale and a Master in Public Affairs (MPA) with distinction from Princeton. She is pursuing an MBA at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, where she is a recipient of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans.
