IT/Telecom

Jennifer Jin is focused on helping entrepreneurs who make less than $4 a day (jua kali). Her initial product, an SMS-based Customer Relationship Management platform, empowers business owners to manage and scale sales, finance, branding, and customer communications without Internet access and technical expertise. Data collected will create verifiable credit records for jua kali. With such records, these entrepreneurs can enter the formal sector and access essential tools – e.g., credit, employment records, land purchase rights – for full economic participation.

Jennifer began her career at Google in Silicon Valley, managing the development of Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google AdWords into international markets and local languages. In 2010, she worked as a Kiva Fellow with Kenyan microfinance institutions. Over the next two years, she re-opened Ashoka’s East Africa office and launched Youth Venture Nairobi, a program that encourages youth to use entrepreneurial thinking to solve problems in their communities. Most recently, Jennifer led business development for D-Rev, a San Francisco nonprofit designing medical devices for patients living on less than $4 a day.

Jenny graduated from Stanford with degrees in International Relations and Product Design. She is currently an MBA candidate at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
