Ekenedilinna Umeike noticed the tremendous fundraising challenges faced by Nigerian charities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and decided to take a page from the mobile payments and crowdsourcing worlds to create SMS Angels. SMS Angels plans to tackle this problem by tapping into Nigeria’s 110 million mobile subscriber market to provide local non-profits with an SMS-based fund raising service. It is now completing its business plan, forming and advisory board, and plans to register and set up a test pilot in the coming months.
