Daniel Obaseki’s project leverages Nigeria’s domestic film industry, Nollywood—the most prolific film-producing industry in the world and a major source of employment for local youth. Daniel’s venture tackles two of the industry’s biggest problems: piracy and lack of a formal distribution platform. He will provide an online and mobile-accessible platform for creative content, with the goal of creating the leading go-to venue for Nigerian entertainment.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Queens, New York, Daniel has always had an eye towards Africa. He took an early interest in the impact of capital allocation and the power of early-stage investment and decided to pursue a career in finance after college. First he worked at an investment firm where he focused on the deal flow of private equity into natural resource companies within both developed and emerging markets. He then joined the International Finance Corporation (IFC) where he worked on oil and gas projects, with a focus on Africa.

Daniel is an MBA candidate at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He also holds a BA in Philosophy from Dartmouth College.
