Andrew’s startup, InSanerator, focuses on providing sanitation infrastructure to those that suffer from easily preventable diseases like diarrhea and cholera. InSanerator aims to provide that sanitation capability in small, discrete chunks by building the infrastructure into shipping containers. A key innovation and feature of this infrastructure is the capacity to monetize the human waste by drying it, burning it, and capturing the energy.

Andrew traveled to several countries which suffered from poor sanitation, and observed that most of these places also struggled with a lack of reliable energy. He wanted to use his engineering background to find a joint solution. InSanerator’s monetization element could eliminate the need for large capital expenditures by local governments, not to mention the years of design, permitting, and construction, all while providing sanitation infrastructure, reliable energy, and clean water to those making less than $3 a day.

Andrew’s previous background as a systems and mechanical engineer at Rockwell Automation, Raytheon, and companies comes in handy when designing industrial hardware. At Rockwell, Andrew designed safety switches, including a next generation cable pull switch that created an entirely new market segment.

His undergraduate degree was in Engineering with a concentration in Systems from Olin College. The Systems Design and Management program at MIT will be especially helpful for developing his business and engineering acumen.
